This meticulously restored and extensively upgraded 1983 Land Rover Defender 110, dubbed “Project Crazy Mountain” by East Coast Defender of Kissimmee, Florida, is a one-off build blending nostalgic Land Rover charm with modern day performance. Originally a left-hand-drive four-door hardtop, this Defender was imported to the U.S. before undergoing a high-end refurbishment.

Finished in an iconic Arles Blue with a contrasting white roof, this Defender's exterior is a fusion of rugged functionality and bespoke detailing. The body showcases LED lighting all around, while an aftermarket front bumper houses LED fog lights and a Warn winch—ideal for tackling off-road adventures with ease. The truck also features full-length step bars, a Safety Devices exterior roll cage, a roof rack, alpine windows, a receiver hitch with trailer wiring, and durable matte checker plating along the hood, rockers, and rear quarter panels, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and protection.

A massive improvement in the powerplant department is the 5.3-liter GM Vortec LC9 V8 engine found under the hood. Equipped with electronic fuel injection, the LS-based V8 is linked to a smooth shifting GM four-speed automatic transmission and dual-range transfer case, delivering robust performance and adaptability across diverse terrains. To support the enhanced power, an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans ensures optimal cooling, even in demanding conditions. The engine breathes through a custom-fabricated intake pipe, further enhancing efficiency and throttle response.

Sitting on striking black 18″ Kahn 1983-style alloy wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain K02 tires (265/65), with a matching spare, mounted on the rear tailgate, this Defender is designed to conquer any landscape. Braking power is provided by upgraded disc brakes at all four corners.

Inside, the converted Puma-style cabin adds a touch of class and luxury, featuring three rows of seats upholstered in two-tone red and tan leather with elegant, pleated inserts. Matching leather continues onto the dashboard and door panels, harmonized with black carpeting for a refined yet adventurous interior atmosphere. Modern amenities include air conditioning, a center console with cupholders and a wireless charging pad, and a touchscreen Sony stereo with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, linked to a premium JL Audio sound system for an exceptional in-cabin experience.

The driver's cockpit is both classic and modern, featuring a wood-rimmed Momo Indy steering wheel and a full suite of Classic Instruments gauges, including a 140-mph speedometer, tachometer, and additional auxiliary gauges, seamlessly blending analog style with digital performance.

“Project Crazy Mountain” by East Coast Defender is a perfect union of timeless Land Rover character and high-performance enhancements, making this Defender 110 a truly unique, all-terrain powerhouse suitable for both city streets and rugged backcountry roads.
