“But for you, perhaps not just any Z will do.” There were quite a few Z28 Camaros sold in 1969, but for those looking for one that has purpose, the example here was likely first built to go fast. This stunning small-block vehicle has been the subject of a nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration, which led to documenting it down to the original Z28 engine frame mounts (stamped 3945507 and 3945508) and further verifying it with a certified trim tag.
Ordering a Z28 meant receiving the unique Trans-Am-oriented homologation race parts, led by the 5.0L engine, the exclusive 302 CI Chevrolet engine that had quickly proven itself under the tutelage of drivers like sports car pilot Mark Donohue and drag racer Dave Strickler, both who had won championships the previous season. Equipped for cowl-inducted fresh air via its special RPO ZL2 hood, this engine is backed with the Muncie 4-speed manual transmission topped by the correct Hurst round bar shifter, with the original Muncie-package speedometer hole stamped below the windshield wiper motor on the firewall here. This is followed by a BE-code 12-bolt 4.10 Positraction (G80) differential. This car also has the RPO NC8 option chambered exhaust system as well as the J52 disc brake option. The original Z28-included four-leaf rear springs are here, along with the original tail pipe adapter plate located on the left side rear frame rail.
