In 1964, Chevrolet launched the Chevelle, a model that would become one of the brand's most successful nameplates in its history. Released as an attempt to meet rising demand for smaller vehicles, Chevrolet offered the Chevelle in several body styles and appointments. Most notably, the Super Sport, or SS, trim level, was Chevrolet entry into the muscle car segment. In 1966, the SS396 became a series of its own, growing interest and demand in the model.
This true "138" SS Chevelle was the recipient of a frame-off restoration in 2021. It is finished in a stunning "R" code Regal Red paint job, which is indicated on the car's trim tag as its original color. Around the exterior of the car, the chrome, brightwork, trim and glass are in fantastic condition. The car is powered by correct "ED" code '66 396ci/325hp that was slightly upgraded with flat top pistons and a Lunati roller cam during the restoration. The motor is tied to a Muncie 4-speed transmission with a new Hurst Super Competition Plus shifter. With a 12-bolt Posi rear end with 4.10 gears, this Chevelle is an absolute blast to drive. The interior features black bucket seats with a factory console and the entire interior has been restored including the door panels, headliner, carpets and more. The car is also equipped with power steering, F-41 rear suspension, HEI ignition, front power disc brakes, and custom dual exhaust. For someone looking for a highly restored Chevelle SS that is also an outstanding car to drive, look no further.
