1964 Jaguar XKE E-Type for sale! Motorcar Classics is proud to present this stunning 1964 Jaguar E-Type Roadster featured in Jaguar Gunmetal Grey metallic with red leather and black convertible top. The car was acquired in the US in 2016 by an international collector who was residing in Poland. The car was shipped to Poland where a restoration was planned. When it became apparent that substantial panel replacement was required, the car was shipped to the UK to be put in the hands of the marque experts at The Hudson Motor Company. Hudson makes a range of replacement panels for the XKE in house, and they source other panels from Jaguar Heritage, SNG Barratt and Martin Robey. Hudson fabricated a brand new centre section for the car, new inner and outer sills, new floor pans, cross members and strengthening panels that they had developed to create additional strength to the car.  New heritage panels, including a new bonnet, door skins, trunk skin, both lower rear quarters were fitted by Hudson. They made small repairs to the door and trunk frames and local areas around the tub and bulkhead.  Out of an abundance of caution, an inspection hole was cut into the bulkhead to be sure there was no hidden corrosion. The engine and picture frames, along with the bonnet support frame were all replaced with new panels from E-Type Fabs. Hudson expertly fitted the new bonnet and frames with perfect gaps.  The shell was lightly blasted and painted in a temporary primer before being protected and shipped back to Poland for completion.

In Poland the car was gently media blasted to bare metal, and immediately painted in an epoxy primer.  The car was then seam-sealed inside and out, something that was never done at the factory, and stone-chip protectant was applied to the underside and wheel arches before going to paint. Dynamat sound deadening was installed to the floors and other panels to reduce noise.

Hudson Motor company supplied the majority of the mechanical parts for the restoration, including a new fly-wheel, crankshaft, a fully rebuilt 4.2 synchromesh gearbox, wiring harness, pistons, valve gaskets and all other mechanical and finishing components that needed to be replaced. There are extensive receipts for everything.

A modern integrated heating and air-conditioning kit was sourced from Claytons in the UK. The Clayton kit replaces the original fan heater unit, and provides the car with a far superior heating, ventilation and air conditioning in the cabin. Aside from a simple control, the installation is discreet. To handle the load, the car was upgraded from a dynamo to a modern alternator. The kit also came with an uprated thermostatically controlled electric engine cooling fan.

The triple SU carburettors were sent to the manufacturer in the UK to be refurbished and polished, as was the speedometer and wiper motor.

The leather interior and roof were hand made by the skilled craftsman in Poland. They are hand-tailored for perfect fit.

The engine was completely stripped and rebuilt with new components supplied from SNG Barratt/Hudson Motor company.  The engine was fully balanced with the new clutch and flywheel. It is simply the quietest and smoothest XKE engine we have ever heard and driven.

New chrome wheels and tires were sourced from the UK, with the correct size and speed rating for the series 1.

All the chrome work is original and was stripped, straightened and repaired prior to undergoing several sessions to create the original deep chrome finish and color.

The car was built to drive. Sensible upgrades include the air conditioning, the cable link accelerator upgrade for a smooth and instantaneous throttle response, the 4.2 all-synchromesh gearbox and LED headlight bulbs for safer night driving. The original moss box is supplied with the car. Fully-sorted, and a joy to drive, this awesome E-Type is in a class of its own.
