1970 FIAT DINO 2.4 SPIDER (JG) for sale! Motorcar Classics is proud to present this superb 1970 Fiat Dino 2.4 Spider. It is one of only 424 2.4 liter Spiders. This example is featured in stunning Light Blue Azzuro Metallico paint with Beige leather interior.  Fiat introduced the Dino in 2.0L form at the 1966 Turin Motor Show. It was available as either a curvy, open Spider by Pininfarina or a smart-looking 2+2 coupe designed by Bertone. The car evolved into a 2.4-liter model by 1970. Ferrari took over production from Fiat, and quality was much improved. The late 2.4 Spiders are considered the most collectible of the bunch. The name is derived from Enzo Ferrari's son Alfredo, nicknamed Dino, who collaborated in the mid-1950s with the legendary engineer Vittorio Jano on a lightweight aluminum V6. A decade later, Ferrari slated this engine to power its F2 race cars. Homologation was necessary, and Fiat, with its mass-production capabilities, was delegated to get the engine into as many cars as such homologation required, in this case 500. But to showcase this new Ferrari engine an entirely new car was required. Pininfarina's beautiful spider featured a lovely wood dash with big gauges and nifty switches, and for many cars, a supple leather interior. For these late cars, the engine had evolved into a 180-hp, cast-iron, 2.4-liter unit that was paired with a more robust ZF transmission. Other upgrades included a switch from a live rear axle and leaf springs to a coil-sprung independent suspension, a larger radiator, a cable-operated clutch, an electric brake servo, and larger tires. The added power and the more sophisticated suspension bring the lithe Dino to life on a twisty road.
Our car has been restored by a marque expert to a very high standard. The body was stripped to bare metal and finished in the original color. The leather interior is excellent and comfortable. The engine compartment and undercarriage are beautifully detailed. The engine and transmission are in robust health and the car is absolutely delightful to drive. It participated successfully in the 2013 Copperstate and has been shown at The Greenwich Concours. The car is fully sorted. The new owner will have one of the best examples of the most desirable 2.4 Fiat Dino Spider variant and will be able to drive or show the car on the most prestigious events with pride.
