#S MATCH THROUGHOUT, ORIGINAL METAL. HIGHLY DOCUMENTED!
#s matching front to rear, original metal California GTO with a great history! 1 woman owner until 1986 when she sold it to the editor of Muscle Car Magazine with 58,000 miles on it. He went on to document the restoration over several pages in 2 different issues of the magazine. He ended up selling it to his friend, the editor of Hemmings Motor News. Every owner since has loved and contributed to the preservation of this GTO. It still only has 70,300 original miles. It comes with a big binder full of documentation including the magazines. It's a very dialed in car from cold a/c to working door buzzer, in radio and all the lights.
EXTERIOR: California built car with all its original sheet metal including the fenders, quarters, hood, trunk, doors, roof, floors, rockers etc. The car is arrow straight, all the panels fit square and flush. No rust or damage. It's only been repainted one time, back in 1986. Beautiful original Palisade Green color. They used the correct ditzler acrylic lacquer. It looks like it was just done a few weeks ago! It's very smooth and glossy. Even the front rubber bumper is still in excellent shape. There are a few minor imperfections I point out in the video. All four correct T3 headlamps. Original windshield. The vinyl top was replaced. Stainless trim is straight and shiny, rear bumper was rechromed. It's sitting on a set of restored Rally ll wheels and reproduction redline tires.
INTERIOR: The interior is in outstanding condition. Down on the floor the carpet looks fresh and there's a set of reproduction mats. Complete set of original seat belts are in excellent shape. The seats have great upholstery, the headrests, plastic and chrome trim is excellent too. Side panels, armrests all look fantastic. The headliner and matching visors were replaced. In front of me is a detailed dash: the dash pad, instrument panel, heater controls, deluxe wheel are beautiful. The correct AM/FM radio works.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Numbers matching 400-350 hp engine with all the correct components: manifolds, valve covers, complete air cleaner system with the heat riser too. Everything looks tidy and proper. Correct hose clamps, spring clamp battery cables, the squirters are hooked up. It features factory air conditioning updated a newer compressor and R134 freon. It also has power steering and brakes.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: 100% original metal; no cuts or splices. Under the trunk lid and the jamb still have the original green paint and the original jacking instructions decal is still in place! The trunk mat and tire cover were replaced. It does have complete jack and spare assembly.
UNDERSIDE: It looks like all the steering and suspension components were apart and rebuilt. It has the F-41 which means front and rear sway bars and boxed rear control arms. It's also upgraded with KYB gas shocks. Correct dual exhaust system including the chrome quad tips. It has disc in front, drum in back. E-brake cables are hooked up. Looking up at the motor it's very clean. Original Turbo 400 automatic is clean, it still has the 1970 tag riveted to it. Original rear end with 3.23 gears. The metal under this car is very impressive, all original and dry floors, rockers, and braces. It was cleaned and painted black.
SERVICE: We inspected the car and replaced the door lock cylinders, lubed, and adjusted the rear window track.
I don't know of a GTO that will come with better documentation. Several pages in the magazines really told the story of its early years, not many cars have that. This is a legit, very nice example of a GTO!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year membership.
